RailCare apprentice Matthew Nobes has won the Advanced Apprentice of the Year, Regional Awards for the South East region. In total six RailCare apprentices were nominated for this award and so a well deserved ‘congratulations’ goes to the other apprentices, Rhys Curtis, Laurence Smith, Dean Walker, Liam Boddy and Ben Nichols.
Matthew has been invited to a luncheon at the regional awards presentation ceremony to be held on Tuesday 24th May 2011 in Maidenhead. David Hilliard, Training & Development Manager for RailCare, will be the Company’s representative at the luncheon with Matthew and says, ‘Railcare have recruited a number of young people over the past four years to enable the business to develop. All of our apprentices started their apprenticeship with nerves, uncertainty and with trepidation. However, it is encouraging to see mature adults with a sense of direction and purpose at the end of the process. Matthew meets these attributes, and he knows he is not the finished article but he is willing to learn and do what he needs to do to get there’. Matthew will also be put forward to the National Apprenticeship Awards that will be announced in June 2011 so we all wish Matthew ‘Good Luck’ with this award.
It is a great achievement to be nominated for the National Apprenticeship Awards which has over 1600 entries for the following categories: · Young Apprentice of the Year (school year 11 only) · Apprentice of the Year · Advanced Apprentice of the Year · Higher Apprentice of the Year · Small Employer of the Year (1 - 24 employees) · Medium Employer of the Year (25 - 249 employees) · Large Employer of the Year (250 - 4,999 employees) · Macro Employer of the Year (5,000 + employees)
Matthew started his apprenticeship with RailCare in September 2007 and has completed his Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering. He is currently studying towards a HNC in Mechanical/Elecrical Engineering at the University of Northampton. Matthew says, ‘I am proud of my work with the Company and I am happy to have been given the opportunity to learn life skills and get back into education.’ Matthew finishes his apprenticeship at the end of August 2011 and it is likely that he will be part of the Management Training Program.
Gerald Digby, Training Officer RailCare states, ‘Having known Matthew for over 3½ years he has demonstrated the attributes needed for a passion for engineering, he is keen to achieve personal development and his identified objectives. Matthew has worked well as a team player demonstrating excellent communication skills’.
Robert Baxter, Managing Director RailCare comments, ‘RailCare are proud to support our apprenticeship scheme as it gives the apprentice the skills and tool set for life-long learning and provides the future for the rail industry’.
