Dave Hughes and Jonathon Davies two of RailCare apprentices took part in an event to increase awareness of engineering careers and training pathways for young people in years 11,12 and 13; year 11 leavers who are not currently in education, employment or training; parents and cares of these groups.

The apprentices were joined by, representatives from, Coventry University, Milton Keynes College, ISIS Training, Bedford Training Group, School and University Student.  The apprentices gave a presentation, explaining why they chose to train via an apprenticeship scheme and what their training involves. After the presentations, they answered questions from the young people and parents.

Jamie Borgeat, Commercial Director stated; "Railcare wish to continue to invest in apprentices as they are the next generation of employees for the railway".

David Hilliard, RailCare Training & Development Manager stated, "I had been asked by Connexions if RailCare would participate in this event; the training team are always keen on developing our apprentices in skills such as presentations and communication. These apprentices can also express what it is like being an apprentice in 2010. Only 7% of employment in Milton Keynes is engineering therefore, we need to promote engineering to youngsters and apprenticeships are an important pathway. Both apprentices represent RailCare with professionalism and were a credit to their families and themselves".
